Midnight Sun Forklift and Kegs 10-13-10

Filed under: Anchorage Scenes, Beer Paintings — admin @ 06:32

I went to the Midnight Sun Brewery today to Meet with Barb Yonashek to talk over a commission (beer painting) of her late husbands elegy Viking Ale.  Before-hand I painted this in the parking lot. I always liked forklifts and I love pallets of kegs! I hope you enjoy this little diddle.

This painting is for sale at my Etsy store!

Old Oldsmobile from the Alley between 10th and 11th

Filed under: Anchorage Scenes — admin @ 04:51

This is an old derelict from the alley near my condo.  I used to drive an old Olds wagon and wanted to spend a little time appreciating this old relic.  I wonder if it even starts, probably not, even with a new battery.  They sure don’t make ‘em like they used to.

Truck and Fairbanks Park

Filed under: Anchorage Scenes — admin @ 19:41

The other day I was thinking that it would be nice to do a painting to commemorate the area where I live, the Southeast quadrant of Downtown Anchorage, specifically 11th and Eagle Street.  I painted the first painting of my pickup truck and building. I was pretty happy because I was able in my painting to fix the damage I had done last summer when I was building the road into my lot in McCarthy, Alaska.   It was pretty funny because my wife had some concerns about me working out in the middle of the National Park without any supervision and although she had sent one of her best friends to keep an eye on me I still managed to crash the truck into a tree on the initial run down the driveway. Oops…and even with a reliable spotter telling me okay very good, keep backing up…wait you are going to fast! Oops now you are hitting a TREE! So I fixed the dent in the painting and now we all won’t have to remember the horrible accident and broken mirror for all of eternity.  I really do love my truck and we just spent a bunch of money getting that door working smoothly again, although the dent still remains!

As for the second painting I decided to head a block down the road to Fairbanks Park, that is lovingly referred to as the Ghetto Park.  It has been on a very nice upswing ever since the city encompassed it with a large fence, prior to which, it was a den for the transient drinking population trying to make it from the Chester Creek Green Belt to the lively Anchorage bar scene. Now the fence makes it nearly impossible to cross, especially if inebriated.  I figured I would hang out in the newly freed up space and get a glimpse of what this group of people had used as their private deck for a while. I realized when the painting was completed it isn’t anything to write home about just a bunch of power lines and trees blocking the good view anyhow…

Aug 12, 2009 plein air session @ Jenny Hand’s painting lesson

Filed under: Anchorage Scenes — admin @ 21:55

I recently went out on assignment as a oil painting teacher for private lessons. As I was approaching the residence of my group of painters I had the idea that it would be very nice to paint outside.  My first thought was to open the garage door, but on further inspection I was led to the backyard which was directly on Jewel Lake.  We had the most amazing time  getting sloppy with oil paint in the backyard. I dropped this painting off of the dashboard on a driving frenzy to pick-up house paint from my parent’s house.  Fortunately the only damage is a little dirt in the sky.

June 30th 2009 Along the coastal trail

Filed under: Anchorage Scenes — admin @ 19:54

Hey I am back and I have a new blog page that is finally updated to include all the content from previous versions.  I hope this format will work for me.  Yesterday I was painting along the coastal trail on my way home from  a last minute visit with Hanif (parent’s FES) I sent him home with a couple of Clendaniel Original paintings, then booked it back home to get some more work done, stopping along the way to paint this scene.  I was glad to work as I have a ton of paint that is about to turn from Wrangell St Elias, and It was nice to see it put to good use! Stay tuned to see tomorrow’s plein air piece from last week in Wrangell St. Elias

MAY 18, 2009

Greetings and welcome to the Clendaniel Studio’s plein air painting blog, my new goal is to paint and update this blog every single day. Its purpose is to tell you where I was painting when and why. Also to show you what I have been working on most recently outdoors. This first entry is from last Friday, and is right before the grass was truly green. I took a little artistic license and greenified it for lack of better word. It is the view from Lynn Airy park. I went out with the plein air painters of Anchorage. It was a lovely morning, but a bit chilly. Look at all that snow on Mt. Susitna! Stay tuned for tomorrows entry

MAY 20, 2009

A brand new day is upon us and it is gorgeous. I eagerly await the painting session for today. Yet I am stil inside uploading the painting from yesterday. I am doing a very small series so it doesn’t take all my time out in the field, these are about an hour or two long paintings. This one is painted on the upper deck on the Snowgoose restaurant. Might I recommend the Hop Bomb from their brewery to the beer lovers in this crowd. I plan on hitting this spot a few more times, as I was having a dificult time deciding what to paint up there, the view is just that good. I decided that the Alaska range was the strongest subject matter of them all. Just wait and see, maybe the others will be better!

MAY 21, 2009

Can you believe this weather?! Went out to the Chester Creek Trail today and stayed close to home, I enjoyed the shady bank of the creek and thought about how many times I crossed that bridge all winter long! This was a repainted support and I am glad that this painting turned out better. I am still working on the beer paintings, I will start photographing them and putting them up on a new page in about a week. stay tuned for more exciting plein air paintings, tomorrow I head out with the plein air painters of Anchorage! Hope it is good turnout…

MAY 22, 2009

I tried to meet with the plein air painting group but obviously missed them. Oh well there is always next week. Since I was in a hurry, because I had an important sushi date with my friend Yuki, (mm mmm sushi) I was only able to put together this little piece. I painted it from the sledding hill at Balto Seppala park in Turnagain. This hill has many important memories for me. It is more than simply the highest place in the neighborhood, it is where I learned to downhill ski, hung out for bicycle jousting, (don’t even ask) and I even proposed to Maria on this very spot. So I hope it is as fun for you to look at this painting as it was for me to paint

Ship Creek

Filed under: Anchorage Scenes — admin @ 19:29

June 9, 2009I made it home from My property in McCarthy which is located in the heart of the Wrangell St. Elias National Park, I unfortunately was not able to hang my tree house as I had hoped. It was a bummer. I am currently trying to decide whether I should continue with the tree house idea or simply leave the grounded structure as a bicycle/tool shed. I am looking forward to returning to the park in a few weeks, and will hopefully be able to conclude the tree house saga.I was painting today along Ship Creek looking at this old building. It reminded me of Duke Russels painting I saw at Snow City about five years ago and felt that it was an interesting dichotomy between nature and architecture. I was also hoping to see some fishermen hauling in some salmon, but alas they were getting skunked.I am also seeking out Commission work if you are in need of a great piece of art for your home or office, or even as a gift give me a holler 907.351.2522 I will ship to just about anywhere
